Prince Harry ‘aimed to settle with Daily Mail’ before multi-million pound trial

  • Prince Harry and other prominent individuals, including Sir Elton John and Baroness Doreen Lawrence, reportedly attempted to reach a settlement with Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), publisher of the Daily Mail , weeks before their multi-million pound legal action commenced.
  • Representatives for the group approached ANL to strike an agreement prior to Prince Harry's scheduled testimony at trial, but lawyers for ANL reportedly rejected the proposed deal outright.
  • The lawsuit alleged that 14 articles published by ANL between 2001 and 2013 were based on information obtained through unlawful methods, such as phone hacking, landline tapping, and the use of private investigators to acquire sensitive data like medical records.
  • In a judgment delivered on Tuesday, Mr Justice Nicklin ruled that all articles published by Associated Newspapers Limited were not based on unlawful information gathering, dismissing the claims made by Prince Harry and the other plaintiffs.
  • Following the court's decision, Prince Harry publicly criticised the outcome, describing it as a 'complete and obvious whitewash'.
