Prince George will attend a Montessori nursery school in Norfolk in the New Year, Kensington Palace has announced.
The two-year-old will join other toddlers at the Westacre Montessori School Nursery in Norfolk in January.
The Montessori learning approach was developed by Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator. It places an emphasis on creativity, freedom to move within the classroom and developing a sense of independence through child-centred education. There are 700 Montessori schools in the UK.
George’s place costs just a reported £33 per day, according to a report in The Telegraph. Some nurseries in Kensington charge up to £15,000 per year per child.
Eighty-five per cent of parents with children at Westacre receive funding to cover the costs of their place. The nursery has been branded “good” but not “outstanding" in its latest Ofsted report.
Ofsted chose not to award it the highest grade in its report because it said “staff do not always seize opportunities to promote children’s learning and deeper thinking skills to the highest level”.
Westacre was chosen in part because of its proximity to their country house in Anmer Hall.
Westacre said George will get “the same special experience as all of our children” in a statement welcoming the Prince.
Prince William attended Mrs. Mynors' Nursery School, a small local nursery close to Kensington Palace chosen by his late mother Diana.
