Prince George's birth 'chaos' sparked emergency plan for Charlotte

The days running up to Prince George's birth caused the world to be struck by royal baby fever.

The media and camera crews provided live footage outside the entrance of St Mary's Hospital's Lindo Wing, where Kate Middleton gave birth to the future king.

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge shared their news on social media, the traditional notice was put up outside Buckingham Palace before the couple appeared outside of the hospital to pose for photographs.

This was a break in tradition for the royals but a royal photographer has said the day proved to be slightly 'chaotic,' the Mirror has reported.

Tim Rooke, who spent hours waiting outside the hospital, said things were so stressful that the Palace ended up coming up with a new system ahead of Princess Charlotte's birth two years later.

Speaking to the Express, he said: "I’ve been at the birth of more than five British royal babies, as well as births of royal family members in Denmark and Spain.

"My first time photographing a royal baby reveal outside of the hospital was the birth of Prince George.

"There was a real sense of chaos around this birth with it being the first child from either William or Harry.

"Everyone was very excited by it, and people camped outside the hospital for weeks."

A new plan was announced when Kate and William announced they were expecting a second child.

The new system included press not being allowed to stand outside the hospital until Kate was admitted.

When it was time, they were all given a numbered slot and who got to stand where was decided by names out a hat.

This meant the media could still get beautiful photos of William and Harry introducing little Charlotte, who was born on May 2, 2015.
