Prince George life-size sponge cake branded 'creepy' after being entered into baking competition

An amateur baker is hoping to win an annual cake competition with a life-sized replica of Prince George, but her unusual creation has been branded “creepy” and “disturbing” by some.

Lara Mason spent 30 hours producing a sponge-cake version of the young son of the Duke and Duchess for the Cake International competition, which is taking place at Birmingham’s NEC arena.

Ms Mason, from Walsall, has won gold in previous years for her likenesses of Jennifer Lawrence and Johnny Depp.

Her royal masterpiece has received somewhat mixed reviews after pictures began circulating on social media.

Ms Mason told the BBC: “I thought I'd do a child. He's the most famous child in the world and especially cute as well and very, very current.

"The feedback from the judges was they loved what I did. ”

She faces competition from a giant tyrannosaurs rex bursting out of a Jurassic Park set and a Star Wars Yoda making a cake levitate.
