Prince George and Princess Charlotte to make debut public Christmas Day appearance

Prince George and Princess Charlotte will take part in the royal family's traditional Christmas Day walk this year, according to a report.

George, six, and his sister Charlotte, four, will accompany their parents the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to church on December 25.

Kate, William and the children will walk with the rest of the family from Norfolk's Sandringham House, where they will celebrate Christmas with the Queen, to St Mary Magdalene Church.

The couple are expected to leave Prince Louis at home with Kate's parents as he is still too young to join them on the stroll, which has become a Christmas tradition.

A royal source told The Sun : “It will be so sweet. George and Charlotte will make their Christmas debut, as long as they're both on good form on the day.

“It’s the picture all royal fans want to see. The royals walking to church on Christmas Day is a rite of passage and so William and Kate didn’t want to expose their children too early, but they feel they’re old enough now.

“After all the negative focus on Prince Andrew, these pictures will also emphasise the positive future of the royal family."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently thought to be enjoying a six-week escape at an unknown location with Meghan's mum Doria Ragland.

It is said they will not be joining the annual staff party at Buckingham Palace tonight or the royal Christmas feast on Wednesday.

Royal insiders insist the decision is not a 'snub' and say the Queen understands their absence, reports say.

A source told Mail Online : "As the couple made clear a few weeks ago, they are taking some time away together as a family.

"This means that they will miss Christmas events."

The annual pre-Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace is one of the rare events on the royal calender when the Queen's extended family comes together for a meal.

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month.

"Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess' mother Doria.

“This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.

“For security reasons, we will not be providing further details on their schedule at this time.”
