Prince George and Charlotte's eye-watering school fees and Louis hasn't even started yet

Educating Prince William and Kate Middleton's three children comes with an eye-watering bill - and their youngest hasn't even started school yet.

Prince George and younger sister Princess Charlotte have both returned to St Thomas' Battersea after a stint of homeschooling due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And little Prince Louis is sure to follow in their footsteps when he grows up too.

But with a private education the fees soon mount up.

St Thomas' Battersea, which lets in pupils aged from four to 13 years-old, is situated in one of the capital's wealthiest areas and certainly has fees to match.

Seven-year-old George, who is third in line to the throne after his dad Prince William and grandad Prince Charles, joined year three this month.

The leap into the middle school means a jump in the cost to his mum and dad too.

Each term his fees, which are due before the first day of term to avoid a late charge, are set at £7,520.

Fourth in line to the throne Princess Charlotte is in year one, so her fees are a little less.

The five year old also gets a discount as brother George is at the school too.

Charlotte's fees come in at £6,560 a term.

The school does provide all text books and stationery for the youngsters but "reserves the right to charge for extra items if the Head deems that the child requires them".

Parents will also be charged for "an atlas, Bible, School Hymn Book, poetry book, English and French dictionary and thesaurus of their own at different levels in school".

The charges also include a residential trip when the children in are in years five, six, and seven, and cover an Outward Bound course in year eight.

Kate and William will fork out at least £42,240 this school year, and that is without the cost of school uniforms and any extras for music or after school activities, they choose to take part in.

Two-year-old Louis hasn't started at St Battersea's yet, but is more than likely to follow his siblings through the school gates.

Both parents, Kate and William, were privately educated with William and brother Harry taught at Eton.

Kate attended private all-girls school Downe House before moving to Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

Speaking about the children's return to school, Prince William said: “I think every parent is breathing a sigh of relief that school has started again.

“Five months – it’s been wonderful, but it’s been a long five months.”
