Prince dead: Watch the 'Purple Rain' singer give the greatest Super Bowl Half-Time Show performance

Prince, who has sadly died aged 57, will be remembered for many an iconic, mesmerising performance, but his Super Bowl Half-Time Show will go down in history as one of the all-time greats.

The morning of the big day in 2007, show production designer Bruce Rodgers looked out of the window to be greeted by a dramatic, wild storm.

“It was like a scene from Moby Dick,” he said at the time. “The winds were blowing the palm trees and the rain would not relent.”

Fortunately, a bit of rain was not going to stop The Purple One. Far from it. “We rang Prince and were like, ‘We want you to know it’s raining, are you okay?’” Rodgers continued. “Prince was like, ‘Yes. Can you make it rain harder?’”

Prince rocked up in a flashy blue and orange suit, black bandanna tied around his head, and launched into an epic, 12-minute setlist including his own hits “Purple Rain”, “Baby I’m a Star” and “Let’s Go Crazy”.

He went on to cover “We Will Rock You” by Queen, “Best of You” by Foo Fighters, “All Along the Watchtower” by Bob Dylan and “Proud Mary” by Creedance Clearwater Revival.

As for the game, the Colts devastated the Bears. But that’s not what Super Bowl XLI will be remembered for.
