Prince Charming plan: Disney to make live-action movie about unlucky brother

After the success of Kenneth Branagh’s live-action Cinderella earlier this year, Disney is planning a comedy based on Prince Charming’s brother.

The studio has bought the script from Matt Fogel, who previously wrote Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son. Fogel is also helping to develop the long-gestating comedy Bob: The Musical, set to star Tom Cruise.

Prince Charming will not follow the titular character, but rather his brother who has struggled to compete thanks to a lack of charm.

The script was offered to studios last week, but Disney outbid them all, hoping to follow its ever-increasing list of live-action kids’ movies. As well as the success of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent and Cinderella, the studio has also planned new takes on Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Mulan, Pocahontas and The Jungle Book.

Other studios are eager to compete, with Universal working on a live-action version of The Little Mermaid, and Warner Bros taking Pinocchio and a different version of The Jungle Book.
