The Prince of Wales has said that he is “thrilled” to learn that his father will be leaving hospital after weeks of treatments due to an infection.

Prince Charles made the comment through his mask when asked about his father during an official visit to North London on Tuesday.

The heir to the throne was at a coronavirus vaccination centre at Finsbury Park Mosque with his wife Camilla when he explained that he's spoken to Prince Philip "several times" in recent weeks.

The British public learned that Prince Philip had been admitted to hospital in mid-February.

The Duke was taken to King Edward VII Hospital in central London as "a precautionary measure" said a Buckingham Palace statement.

Philip was later transferred to St Bartholomew’s in east London where he was admitted to theatre for a “heart procedure”.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: "His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him at both King Edward VII’s Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and everyone who has sent their good wishes”.

Philip has previously been treated for heart problems.

He was flown to hospital by helicopter from Sandringham as the royal family was preparing for Christmas in 2011. He was treated for a blocked coronary artery at Papworth Hospital, Cambridgeshire, and had a coronary stenting procedure.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced calls to postpone their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey as Philip was in hospital, but the interview aired on 8 March in the UK and left a wave of controversy in its wake.

Prince Philip is the longest-reigning consort in British history, and turns 100 in June. Both he and the Queen received coronavirus vaccinations in January.
