Prince Charles’s letters may affect the issue of his succession

It seems to us that the reasons Dominic Grieve gives for vetoing the publication of Prince Charles’s letters are the very reasons that we, the public, should insist on seeing them (Prince’s ‘Black Spider’ memos – decision on publication next week, 21 March). Charles, a man of great potential influence, though unelected, should not just be politically neutral, but should be seen to be politically neutral. If, as Grieve says, publication of the letters would undermine this position, we should be given the opportunity to assess where we stand on the whole issue of his succession.
