Prince Charles picks up £5m tab for Princes as costs increase since Meghan joins firm

Prince Charles picked up the £5million tab for expenses involving sons and their wives.

The heir to the throne gets to spend surplus cash made from his vast inherited property holding, the Duchy of Cornwall.

The annual income from the estate, which includes the Oval cricket ground and 67,000 acres of Dartmoor, fell by £103,000 to £21.63million in 2018/2019.

His expenses bill for that year, when Harry and Meghan wed, was £5.05million, up £89,000 from £4.96million in 2017/2018.

The year before that it was £3.5million.

The amount covers his sons and their families’ activities and “other expenditure”, which aides said could include anything from gardening equipment to clothes.
