Prince Charles lashes out on live radio over toilet seat rumours

Prince Charles has responded angrily to claims he takes his own toilet seat with him on trips abroad.

The 69-year-old heir to the throne was asked whether the rumour was true on live radio during a seven-day tour of Australia.

Prince Charles replied to the question from a reporter for Brisbane's Hit105 station by spluttering: "My own what?"

The prince added: '"Oh, don't believe all that crap. The very idea."

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was also asked to confirm the rumour, but responded only with an exasperated sigh.

The toilet seat claim featured in Tom Bower's biography of Charles, titled Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion And Defiance Of Prince Charles, published last month.

According to the book, the Prince of Wales takes luxury loo roll, a toilet seat, a chest of drawers, an orthopaedic mattress and two landscapes of the Scottish Highlands on longer journeys.

He is also said to change his clothes up to five times day and tasks a police officer to carry his own pre-mixed cocktails to functions, it is claimed.

It was even claimed that the Prince had no idea what cling film was and shrieked at the sight of it covering food after a lunch at Clarence House.

Charles's director of communications, Julian Payne, referred to the rumour on Twitter by saying the Prince's tour involved "zero personal loo seats".

Earlier in the day Prince Charles and Camilla toured the athletes' village and met with members of Surf Life Saving Queensland.

Prince Charles opened the 2018 Commonwealth Games yesterday on behalf of the Queen.
