Prince Charles joins Scottish youngsters in Edinburgh for launch of youth volunteer rewards program

PRINCE Charles will be in Edinburgh tonight to host the launch of a new rewards scheme for young people.

The Prince will meet young volunteers - such as 17-year-old Morgan Morris from Fife and youth councillor Susanne Maxwell, 20, from South Lanarkshire - at Holyroodhouse, during the #iwill launch party.

The #iwill campaign, run by Young Scot, will allow youths to exchange points they earn by carrying out activities, such as campaigning, fundraising or volunteering, which can then be exchanged for charity gifts, challenges and award schemes - such as the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

#iwill is open to young volunteers aged 10 to 20-years-old, to help encourage taking part in an activity which helps others.

Sir Chris Hoy has voiced his support to the campaign, saying: "Sport, especially at grassroots level, needs volunteers to thrive.

"I am therefore delighted to add my backing to the #iwill campaign, which is all about enabling young people all over the UK to make a difference in their community."

Research has shown that Scottish youths are leading the way in volunteer work among UK young people. In 2015 44 per cent of 10 to 20-year-olds took part in activity which had a positive impact on others.

Louise Macdonald, Chief Executive of Young Scot, said: “The new Young Scot #iwill rewards programme will recognise the efforts of young people with additional opportunities to give back and the chance to take part in unique experiences.
