Prince Charles 'enormously let down' by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's racism claims

Prince Charles 'feels enormously let down' by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's claims of racism within the Royal Family, it has been reported.

Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle caused a sensation during a bombshell interview with US chat show host Oprah Winfrey.

Among the claims made was that an unnamed member of the royal family had raised "concerns" over how dark their son Archie's skin tone would be.

Although they did not specify who it was that made the comment, it was later clarified that it was neither the monarch or Prince Philip.

The Palace went on to launch a private investigation and said that Harry and Meghan remained "much-loved" members of the family.

Now, People reports that Prince Charles "feels enormously let down" by the racism claims made during the interview.

The publication quoted a 'source close to the royal household' as saying: "The prince believes in diversity and his actions show that.

"He was the first person to highlight the Windrush generation and the contributions they made to British society.

"He has worked hard for the Muslim community. Of all the members of the royal family, he has taken this issue the most seriously."

A palace source was also reported to have said that Charles had had a 'complicated relationship' with his two sons, which was 'not a straightforward' father and son relationship.

The couple’s tell-all interview, which first aired in the US, was said to have left Harry’s dad Prince Charles and his brother William “saddened” – after they tried to heal the rift.

A Palace source said at the time : “The overriding feeling throughout this whole sorry saga is one where many people, especially the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge, have been left immensely saddened.

“There is a distinct feeling inside the camp there must have been a better way to solve the issues by coming together, rather than the nuclear decision that has resulted in everything being discussed so publicly and without reason.

“When all is said and done, no one is likely to come off smelling of roses.”
