Ant and Dec closely met Prince Charles just two weeks before royal's coronavirus diagnosis

Prince Charles enjoyed a catch up with Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly two weeks before he was confirmed to have tested positive for coronavirus.

The trio got together at the star-studded Prince's Trust Awards at the London Palladium on March 11.

Charles sparked headlines at the time by greeting the presenters with a namaste gesture as a response to the ongoing spread of Covid-19 - which had yet to be labelled a pandemic.

The Prince of Wales continued to chat within close proximity to the Geordie duo before the 2metre social-distance rule was advised.

Earlier on the red carpet, Charles had extended his hand to greet chief executive of the trust John Booth.

He then withdrew the offer in mock horror and switched his greeting to a bow and prayer movement instead.

"It's just so hard to remember not to," he was heard saying.

Following a number of high profile engagements this month, Clarence House revealed today the Prince of Wales has tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement they described his symptoms as 'mild' and said he was self-isolating separately from Camilla, who has tested negative for the disease.

Charles' positive test was carried out on Monday by the NHS in Aberdeenshire, where he had been at Highgrove, his residence in Gloucestershire, before going to Birkhall, on Royal Deeside in Aberdeenshire, on Sunday.

Six staff members are self-isolating as well.

A Clarence House spokesman said: "The Prince of Wales has tested positive for coronavirus. He has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual.

"The Duchess of Cornwall has also been tested but does not have the virus."

Charles last saw his mum the Queen on March 12, when he went to Buckingham Palace to carry out an Investiture on her behalf.

A spokesman has today said the Queen is in “good health”.

Ant and Dec appeared in good spirits as they presented the final Saturday Night Takeaway of the series over the weekend.

The latest run had been cut short after the finale in Florida was cancelled by bosses in response to travel restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic.

While the last episode on Saturday night was without a studio audience for the first time ever in keeping with the guidelines on mass gatherings and to protect ITV employees.

Mirror Online has contacted representatives of Ant and Dec for comment.
