It is understood that the gardai were carrying out security sweeps of the locations where the pair are expected to visit.

The Prince will also reportedly meet with senior members of Sinn Fein as well as other Northern party leaders including the DUP’s leader Arlene Foster.

It is not yet known if the meeting will be public or if there will be any public appearance by the Prince with the groups involved.

Both Prince Charles and Camilla visited Ireland last June for a four-day trip.

The pair visited a number of locations across Cork and Kerry, including Derrynane House and the English Market.

During the trip Prince Charles met Sinn Fein president Mary Lou McDonald and vice president Michelle O’Neill at a private meeting in Cork.

The Duke and Duchess also visited Northern Ireland during their trip where they laid a wreath at the Garden of Remembrance in Omagh.
