Prince Charles and Camilla completed their tour of the Caribbean today with a whistle-stop visit to the Cayman Islands.

It was the final leg of their 12-day trip that took in five Commonwealth countries and a historic first royal visit to Cuba.

On arrival in the tiny British Overseas Territory, the heir to the throne opened the new Owen Roberts International Airport.

A large crowd greeted the royal couple after their RAF Voyager plane touched down, with schoolchildren handing Camilla a balloon ahead of the couple’s 14th wedding anniversary next month, below.

Premier Alden McLaughlin told them: “It is my sincere hope you both enjoy your time here and return home with fond memories of these islands and our people.”

Charles and Camilla were today carrying out a number of solo engagements on the islands, with the prince visiting the Blue Iguana recovery centre to learn about a programme to safeguard the threatened species.

Later he was heading to a pagoda for a discussion with local businesses about how the finance industry can assist with environmental projects.

Camilla was visiting a hospice and touring a crisis centre, as well as meeting staff and pupils from George Town Primary School in the capital city.
