When Prince Andrew married Sarah Ferguson in July 1986, the world thought they were getting a love story straight out of a fairy tale. But a new book says that the story was unraveling behind the scenes from the very beginning.
In Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, by author Andrew Lownie, a former driver for the Duke of York claims that Andrew was far from faithful. According to the book, Andrew slept with more than a dozen women during his first year of marriage to Fergie.
That claim comes straight from the driver, who is quoted in excerpts published by the Daily Mail.
“Sarah discovered Andrew wasn’t coming home on some of his leave. He was going elsewhere, and this just drove her crazy. She didn’t like the fact she was a shore widow, and to discover she was shore-widowed intentionally really hurt.”
One detail that hits hard is that, during their first year of marriage, Andrew reportedly spent just 42 days at home. For Fergie, who was juggling royal duties and motherhood, that kind of absence didn’t just strain the relationship — it shattered it.
Despite the drama, Andrew and Ferguson stayed married for ten years before splitting in May 1996. What’s surprising is that they’ve remained unusually close ever since. The two were even seen together again on August 4, just days after these new allegations came to light. They share two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

The book goes even deeper with more explosive claims. According to The Guardian, it alleges that during one trip to Bangkok, Andrew had more than ten women a day coming into his hotel room. That claim alone would raise eyebrows, but it doesn’t stop there.
It is also reported that Prince Andrew once got into a physical fight with his nephew, Prince Harry. Harry has already denied that part in a statement to Us Weekly.
Of course, this isn’t Andrew’s first brush with public scandal. His ties to Jeffrey Epstein put him in the global spotlight in 2019, leading him to step away from royal duties and lose his titles. At the time, Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexual assault linked to Epstein. In a widely criticized BBC Newsnight interview, Andrew denied even meeting her, despite a photo of them together.
Giuffre later sued him in 2021, and the case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. She died by suicide in April at the age of 41.
The book also touches on Sarah Ferguson’s rumored affair with American businessman Steve Wyatt, showing that both sides of the royal couple had their share of controversy.
If these claims are even partly true, they offer a messy and dramatic look at what went on behind palace walls.
