Prince Andrew 'may be stripped of Sea Cadets role' over Jeffrey Epstein scandal

Prince Andrew is set to be axed as Admiral of the Sea Cadets amid mounting pressure for him to be stripped of military roles.

A source said the charity for 10 to 18-year-olds is “reviewing” the Duke of York’s position as nominal military head, which he has held since 1992.

It follows lurid allegations about his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Another source added: “In the near future, His Royal Highness will not be involved any longer. But changes take time and I suspect we are looking at a cooling-off period.”

Andrew could also lose his military roles as pressure continues to mount. He was accused yesterday of flouting security at Buckingham Palace by inviting in a masseuse introduced to him by Epstein’s former girlfriend and alleged fixer, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Monique Giannelloni, 55, said of her June 2000 visit to the Duke: “Nobody checked my bag when I arrived or when I left.”

Andrew is commodore-in-chief of the Fleet Air Arm. Honorary Army roles include Grenadier Guards colonel and four colonel-in-chief titles. A retired senior Army officer said: “I believe it is likely he’ll have his military roles removed.”

The Sea Cadets refused to comment yesterday. The Palace said: “The Duke has stepped back from his public duties and patronages for the foreseeable future.”

  • Prince Harry and wife Meghan wrote a “Happy Thanksgiving” message with a maple leaf emoji on social media yesterday, sparking speculation they are visiting Canada.
