Prince Amukamara to sign with Raiders: report

Former Bears cornerback Prince Amukamara will reportedly sign with the Raiders. | Charles Rex Arbogast/AP

Former Bears starting cornerback Prince Amukamara is signing a one-year deal with the Raiders, according to NFL Network.

The Bears cut him in February to save salary cap space. He was set to make $9 million in base salary in 2020, but instead will cost $1 million in dead cap money.

Amukamara proved to be one of general manager Ryan Pace’s more astute pickups, starting 42 games over a three-year Bears career. He signed a one-year contract in 2017 and then inked a three-year extension the following offseason.

Amukamara is entering his 10th season and will turn 31 next month.

The Bears chose youth to replace him. They drafted Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson in the second round last month. If he’s recovered from shoulder surgery, Johnson figures to have the edge over Kevin Toliver — who started twice for Amukamara — as well as former CFL player Tre Roberson and former Steelers first-round pick Artie Burns.

Amukamara will join former Bears linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski in Las Vegas.
