Prime Minister Boris Johnson to unveil lockdown exit plan this Sunday

Boris Johnson is expected to reveal plans for the UK exiting the government imposed lockdown this Sunday.

A review of current measures will take place on Thursday as planned but the Prime Minister is not expected to offer lockdown insight until the weekend.

Ministers have repeatedly been questioned about potential exit strategies but have so far resisted speculating on the subject in a bid to maintain the message that staying home saves lives.

During the daily briefings, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has continually said the government will not lift lockdown measures until a second peak of the deadly virus is no longer a risk.

The lockdown was introduced on March 23 as a preventative measure to try and curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

But now, businesses, major employers and unions have reportedly received draft government guidelines which detail how companies will be able to get back to work and operate safely as lockdown measures are gradually lifted.

The government's plan for exiting the current lockdown will attempt to gradually re-start the economy, with the Prime Minister expected to fully set out his "road map" out of lockdown this Sunday.

Speaking at the daily conference on Sunday, May 3, Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove said some social distancing measures would remain in place until a vaccine has been developed.

He added the government was aiming to get people's lives "as close to normal as possible".

Any plans to exit the lockdown will likely include phased approaches to normality, in efforts to ensure a second peak of the virus is avoided.

World leaders are to meet today in a virtual summit to go over plans to unite and discover a vaccine.
