Prime Minister Boris Johnson says plan to take England out of lockdown will be published in February

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the Government will set out plans for a way out of England's third national lockdown next month.

Speaking in the House of Commons, he told MPs the overall picture - including the impact of restrictions and the vaccine roll out - should be clearer by mid-February.

Mr Johnson said the lockdown leaving roadmap will then be published in the week of February 22, with the plans seeing a "gradual and phased" route out of lockdown.

England’s current lockdown is due to be reviewed on February 15 and Mr Johnson said: “I can tell the House that when Parliament returns from recess in the week commencing 22nd February subject to the full agreement of the House, we intend to set out the results of that review and publish our plan for taking the country out of lockdown.

"That plan will of course depend on the continued success of our vaccination programme, the capacity of the NHS and on deaths falling at the pace we would expect as more people are inoculated.”

Boris Johnson confirms all arrivals who cannot be refused entry into the UK will be required to quarantine in hotels for 10 days -

He said that he remained confident that the top four priority groups – taking in all over-70s, health and care staff and elderly care home residents – would receive a first jab by mid-February “if we can get the supply” of vaccines.

It came as the Prime Minister also confirmed UK nationals and residents returning from “red list” countries will be placed in quarantine in Government-provided accommodation such as hotels for 10 days..

Mr Johnson also said he hoped it would be safe to begin the reopening of England’s schools from March 8.
