Prime Minister Boris Johnson leaves intensive care

Boris Johnson has left intensive care, Downing Street has confirmed.

The Prime Minister has spent three nights in critical care at St Thomas' Hospital in London after being admitted to the hospital on Sunday.

Mr Johnson has now been moved to a regular ward where his condition will continue to be monitored.

A No10 spokesman said: "The Prime Minister has been moved this evening from intensive care back to the ward, where he will receive close monitoring during the early phase of his recovery."

They added that "he is in extremely good spirits."

Health Secretary Matt Hancock tweeted: “So good that the Prime Minister is out of intensive care and on the road to recovery. The NHS is there for us all and I know our amazing NHS staff have given him their characteristic world-class care.”

New Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer tweeted: “This is good news. I hope it is the beginnings of a speedy recovery.”

And President Donald Trump also tweeted: “Great News: Prime Minister Boris Johnson has just been moved out of Intensive Care. Get well Boris!!!”

Mr Johnson was taken into hospital on Sunday for testing after showing persistent symptoms of coronavirus, 10 days after testing positive for the virus.

Downing Street said yesterday that the PM had received standard oxygen treatment and was breathing on his own without any other assistance.
