Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed the intended date for when indoor performances such as theatre shows, gigs and sporting events at stadiums can return.
In a press conference this morning , the PM laid out the next steps for Britain’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, with updates on working from home and more reopenings.
Theatres, stadiums and wedding venues across the country closed their doors in March after the Government enforced lockdown and have been waiting for news ever since.
Today, Boris Johnson confirmed that pilots will take place from August 1 to return fans to stadiums for sporting and music events, as well as piloted returns for indoor theatre performances.
Stadiums can then reopen for sports and music events from October 1, though this is subject to a piloted return.
He said: ""From October, we intend to bring back audiences in stadiums."
The PM said that all these measures will be dependent on there being no further outbreaks of coronavirus and reopenings must be in a ‘Covid secure’ way.
The Prime Minister also announced that from July 25 indoor sports facilities can reopen.
From August 1, wedding receptions will be allowed for up to 30 people.

Boris Johnson also confirmed that despite reopening many hospitality and leisure businesses, nightclubs and indoor children’s play areas, such as soft play centres, will remain closed for the foreseeable future.
He added that this is under constant review.
