A teacher has been accused of filming the private parts of primary school students with his mobile phone.

The 30-year-old from a school in southwest Sydney was arrested on Monday after reports of an incident at the public campus.

Officers were told the man used his mobile phone to make recordings of students.

He was charged with one aggravated and one non-aggravated count of filming a person's private parts without consent, and producing child abuse material.

The man was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday as police investigations continue.

A spokesman for the NSW Department of Education said the man had been removed from teaching duties while the department worked with police.

"The safety of students is always our number-one priority," he said in a statement.

Support and counselling services were available for students and staff, the spokesman added.
