Primary school shuts entirely after one coronavirus case

A primary has to close just three days after the end of the Easter break following confirmation of a case at coronavirus.

A single case of Covid-19 has been confirmed at Ysgol Talhaiarn, in the village of Llanfair TH, near Abergele.

The school’s gate will remain shut on Thursday (April 15) so that coronavirus tests can be analysed.

Around 50 pupils and several staff have been asked to quarantine in the meantime.

Conwy Council said the closure was agreed as a “precautionary measure”.

A spokesperson told NorthWalesLive: “We are aware of a confirmed case at Ysgol Talhaiarn.

“The school is working closely with NHS Wales Test, Trace, Protect.

“Relevant staff and pupils have been advised to self-isolate.

All primary schools in Wales fully reopened on March 15 but it wasn’t until Monday, April 12, that all secondary pupils were also able to return to the classroom.

It is believed the school closure is the first in North Wales since a case was identified at Ysgol Llywelyn, Rhyl, at the start Easter break.
