Primary school sends 'class bubble' home after positive coronavirus test

A primary school in Bristol has sent a 'class bubble' home after a confirmed positive case of coronavirus.

Air Balloon Primary School has told a group of Year 1 pupils to self-isolate after the positive test at the school.

It is the third time this academic year the primary school in St George has sent pupils home because of coronavirus - asking pupils to self-isolate after a suspected case in mid-September and then again at the end of October.

Parents of pupils in the 'Mercury Class' were contacted this morning (Thursday, October 12) and asked to collect their child from school as quickly as possible.

BristolLive understands around 28 Year 1 pupils have been asked to self-isolate.

In a letter sent to parents, headteacher Tim Browse said: "We have been made aware that we have a confirmed positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) at Air Balloon Hill Primary School.

"We have followed the national guidance and have identified that your child has been in close contact with the affected person.

"In line with the national guidance your child must stay at home and self-isolate until Tuesday, November 24.

"Please make immediate arrangements to collect your child from school as quickly as possible. Collecting adults can pick up from outside the classroom, exactly the same as the beginning and end of the day.

"I appreciate that managing your child’s period of isolation may be inconvenient and disappointing, but I know that we all recognise this is a necessary action to help reduce the spread of coronavirus."

Hundreds of Bristol children are already isolating after a number of schools have confirmed coronavirus cases in the first weeks back.

Air Balloon Primary School was approached for comment.
