Pupils at two Motherwell primary schools have an extra special reason to look forward to the term starting again with the opening of a brand-new multi-use sports area.
Staff and pupils from St Brendan’s and Muirhouse primaries worked together to develop an unused ash pitch close to their schools.
Councillor Kenneth Duffy, convener of the council’s Local Area Partnership, said: “This development will create a ball game area and also a running track surrounding it which will be perfect for PE lessons for the pupils to enjoy.
“The schools have agreed to share use of the new facility and timetable class access to ensure the maximum number of local children benefit. We will also be looking to create a community access point to the facility to allow community sports activities to take place out with the school day.”
The project is costing £120,000 with the majority of funding allocated from the local development programme via Community Matters (Motherwell).
The schools’ parent councils also contributed towards costs.
