Primary school pupil tests positive for Covid-19 but classmates won't have to self-isolate

A student at a primary school has tested positive for the coronavirus.

This week, parents were told that a pupil at Cobbs Brow Primary School, Skelmersdale, had been tested for the virus after showing symptoms.

Now, the school has confirmed that the youngster did register a positive test and has sent a letter out to parents to explain the situation, Lancs Live reports.

While the pupil had been attending school, they had only been in childcare and not in the classroom 'bubbles' that have been set up for pupils in reception, Year 1 and Year 6.

As such, the childcare service has been suspended for two weeks and all of the pupils who had attended have been asked to self-isolate.

But, other pupils will be allowed to continue coming to school as normal.

"As you are aware, one of our children developed mild symptoms and was tested for Covid-19 on Wednesday and the results came back on Thursday as unclear," explained the letter sent out to parents.

"The child has since taken the test again and the result came back today as positive. The family are now self-isolating.

"Following government and local authority advice, childcare will be closed for 2 weeks with the start date from Thursday, June 25. Please note that if your child attended childcare in the school hall last week they must self-isolate for 14 days. This is in line with government advice. If your child has a sibling attending a class or bubble in school, they should also stay at home.

"If your child attended school last week as part of the reception, Year 1 and 6 bubbles, they can attend school as long as they do not have any siblings that were in the childcare setting last week.

"I must acknowledge that as soon as the parent spotted the mild symptoms in their child they immediately informed school and took all the appropriate action including getting tests taken.

"This vigilance has helped to protect children and staff."
