Primary school in Patchway celebrates as £1,000 is raised for vandalised library bus

A primary school is celebrating after more than £1,000 was raised to repair its library bus which was damaged by vandals.

The bus was used by pupils at Coniston Primary School and St Chad's pre-school in Patchway for reading.

But on January 11 vandals got into the site of the South Gloucestershire school and smashed the windows of the bus.

The school's head teacher Mr Walters told Bristol Live the teenagers also threw all the books and games outside, which were left "wet and ruined because of the bad weather".

Following the incident, the local community not only helped to clean up the debris but set up a GoFundMe page with a target of £1,000 to make repairs to the much-loved bus.

Mr Walters thanked people for their support, saying: "I've seen people come together and help and take real value in their community by tackling this local matter.

"In terms of the GoFundMe page, a parent set that up off her own back. Someone felt they needed to help.

"I would like to thank everyone for their messages of support.

"A huge thank you to the people who came up to clear the glass and books off the playground.

"Some of you have links to the school and some of you don't, we are so grateful, you are all amazing.

"It has been brilliant to see the whole community rally round and work together."

Target reached

Donations started pouring in from people connected with the school and members of the local community after the GoFundMe page was set up.

And less than one week on from being launched, it reached its £1,000 target.

A total of 73 people have pledged money to raise £1,073, as it stands, for repairs to be made to the bus.

Writing on the page yesterday (January 17), the person who set it up wrote: "WOW we are over our target, simply amazing thank you to all that donated.

"We are very thank full to each and every one of you (sic)."

Bristol Live has approached the woman for further comment. You can still donate to the cause to raise more funds for the school by visiting the GoFundMe page.
