Primary school in County Durham has 'a number of positive coronavirus cases'

A primary school in County Durham is working with the council after a "number of positive coronavirus cases".

Chester-le-Street CE Primary School in Hilda Park, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, has a number of cases within the school which Durham County Council say are being "managed appropriately".

It comes after reports that a number of teachers had tested positive for the virus- though it has not yet been confirmed by the council or school.

Amanda Healy, Durham’s Director of Public Health, said: "We are working with any school in the county which has reported positive cases.

"We have worked closely with this school because of a number of cases there, which have been managed appropriately."

A number of schools across the region have been affected by coronavirus after they reopened earlier this month.

Some asked year groups or bubbles to isolate at home, while others decided to close for a deep clean.

On Monday, Seaham High School in Seaham confirmed that a pupil had tested positive for the virus as a number of schools in Sunderland also announced cases.

Other recently affected schools include; Washington Academy, Venerable Bede C of E Academy and Biddick Academy.
