Primary school headmaster says 8-year-olds are watching and emulating Love Island

The headmaster of a primary school has written a letter to parents complaining that young children were watching Love Island.

Aled Rees said children as young as eight were emulating behaviour seen on the ITV programme and told parents the show's contestants were "no role models for our children".

Mr Rees works at a school in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire and said children had been commenting on each other's appearance and "pairing individuals together", according to the BBC.

Mr Rees wrote in his letter: "I am of the opinion that primary school pupils aren't mature enough to watch a programme of this nature where a person's appearance is more important than their personality.

"The influence of the programme has led to pupils commenting on others' appearance and pairing individuals together as they are a good 'match.'"

The scathing letter adds: "I am sure that there are better ways to spend time with your children and more appropriate programmes they could be watching."

It was revealed a number of the children watched the show after an investigation into name-calling at Ysgol Gymraeg Teilo Sant, it is being reported.

Mr Rees told the broadcaster parents were generally supportive of his position.
