Primary school gifted new Saltire flag after years of fundraising success

A PRIMARY school in Fife has been gifted a new Saltire flag in celebration of its pupils long history of fundraising.

Carnock Primary School in west Fife was originally given the flag after winning the annual St Andrew’s Day competition organised by the St Andrew’s Society.

It challenges schools to fundraise for a chosen charity and awards the winner with a Saltire flag to celebrate their achievements.

Despite being made up of just 100 pupils Carnock Primary School has had an outsized impact on the competition, winning the top prize for five consecutive years against much larger primary and secondary schools.

However, over the years the original flag the school was gifted had become tattered and worn.

A new flag has now been donated by former teacher Lizz Mogg – who was instrumental in encouraging pupils during their fundraising efforts.

It was presented to the school by local councillor Samantha Steele.

She said: “The Saltire continues to be a source of pride, not just for the school, but for the wider village.

“Residents had noticed that the old flag had become very tattered, so we were all really pleased to hear about Lizz’s donation and see the new flag in its rightful place.”

MP for West Fife and Dunfermline Douglas Chapman added: “This bright new Saltire flag is a fitting tribute to a school and wider community that is very proud of its achievements past and present.

"I’m delighted that throughout her fantastic career as a teacher and now into retirement, Lizz Mogg continues to ‘fly the flag’ herself for Carnock Primary, supporting young talent and a sense of pride in their Scottish heritage.”
