Primary school forced to close after outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea

A primary school will be closed tomorrow after an outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea.

Thatto Heath Community Primary School, in Hobart Street, St Helens , was forced to shut its doors after the illness "peaked" during today and a "significant" number of children were sent home.

Parents have been told a planned Christmas carol performance at St John's Church on Monday has also been cancelled.

A letter to parents, from head teacher Catherine Ireland, was posted on their : "I am writing to inform you that I have, unfortunately, had to take the decision to close the school to all pupils tomorrow, due to the continued outbreak of flu like symptoms and sickness and diarrhoea.

"The illnesses have been peaking throughout today with a significant number of pupils having been sent home. All infection control measures, as instructed by Public Health, have been implemented.

"A deep clean of the school premises will be undertaken during the closure.

"School will re-open on Monday. The planned performance of the Year 5 and 6 Carol Service at St Johns Church on Monday will, however, be cancelled."

St Helens Council urged parents to follow advice from Public Health England here .
