Primary school closes to all year groups after Covid cases

A primary school in Salford has closed to every year group after confirmed Covid cases.

Holy Family Catholic School, in Langworthy, has shut all its bubbles after three positive cases.

Parents were initially told to keep any children from Years 1 and 2 home, but from Monday the school closed to all pupils.

It comes as schools across Greater Manchester have been closing bubbles after positive tests among pupils, staff, or both.

While in some, only close contacts of those who test positive are being told to self-isolate, others are sending entire year groups home.

This has sparked criticism from parents who fear children will be in and out of school throughout the academic year.

But having large bubbles is the only way some schools say they can make things work and insist they are simply following public health advice when deciding who needs to isolate.

Yesterday we reported how the number of schools with confirmed cases has now reached 272 across the region.

But with no official list available of all the bubble closures - and the Manchester Evening News confirming cases after being alerted by parents - it's likely there are many more.
