Primary school closes to all pupils amid Covid outbreak

A primary school closed to all year groups today following a positive Covid case.

Families were informed at the weekend that children would need to stay home from Parklee Primary School in Atherton, Wigan, because a lunchtime supervisor had tested positive.

Contact tracing is now being carried out to identify which pupils need to stay off, but it's understood a large number of them will return tomorrow, Tuesday, for the last few days of term.

It comes as thousands of youngsters across Greater Manchester are missing their final days in the classroom because of positive cases among pupils and staff.

While nationally bubbles have been scrapped as part of today's so-called freedom day, they remain in place here because the number of cases we're seeing is still too high.

Cath Pealing, assistant director for education at Wigan Council, said: “We are currently carrying out the contact tracing process and parents will be informed shortly whether their child needs to continue isolating or is safe to return to school.”

Has your school had a positive Covid test this half term? How many times has your child had to isolate this academic year?
