A Paisley primary school pupil has won a competition to design a Christmas card for local MSP Russell Findlay.

Paisley artist Joe Hargan agreed to judge the pictures — and donated a £20 prize for the winner plus £10 for each runner-up.

Russell and Joe revealed the result to pupils during a visit to Ralston Primary on Monday.

Scottish Conservative MSP Russell Findlay said : “It was a real privilege to receive so many festive pictures from Paisley’s budding young artists.

“I was self-isolating due to Covid so I was grateful to Joe for his expertise in judging which pictures to use on my parliament Christmas card.

“Anoop’s cheerful drawing of Santa and a snowman really captures the magic of Christmas and is a worthy winner.

“I’m very grateful to all the pupils but also the teaching staff for making us so welcome. It was extremely generous of Joe to provide a cash prize and we made sure that everyone got a treat as a little thank you.”

Joe Hargan, past president of the Paisley Art Institute, said : “I passionately believe that every child should be encouraged to express themselves through art.

“Creating art is not only a great pleasure but also stimulates creativity. During lockdown, this has been even more important.

“The quality of the artwork was phenomenal, and it was really difficult picking out which pupils to feature on Russell’s Christmas card.”
