Primary one children were sent home from school after pupils as young as five were caught smoking an e-cigarette.
Teaching staff at the school were stunned to find children aged five and six with the vape
Medical checks were carried out on a small number of pupils who it is thought had accessed the e-cigarette at Brockworth Primary Academy in Gloucestershire.
Gloucestershire Live reported that parents of the youngsters had been informed of the incident, which occurred on Wednesday morning.
According to one parent at the school, the e-cigarette had been brought in to school grounds by an older child and managed to make it's way into the hands of the schools youngest pupils.
An investigation is now underway to find out how the item was brought into school.
A spokesperson for Brockworth Primary told Gloucestershire Live: “We have written to all parents to make them aware that yesterday an e-cigarette was brought into school from home without parents’ knowledge.

"As a precaution, medical checks were arranged for the small number of children involved, and all children are safe and well.
"We are carrying out a further investigation into how this happened and will be running a series of sessions with the children over the coming weeks around keeping themselves safe and making the right choices when they are with their friends.”
