Primark urgently recalls Disney product that could be harmful to children

A Winnie the Pooh themed plate from Primark has been recalled and removed from shelves.

It comes after fears the Disney product could cause children illnesses and even learning difficulties. The wooden plates have been removed from shelves after they were found to release trace amounts of lead and formaldehyde at levels higher than the EU regulation permitted levels.

A Primark spokesman said: "We take the safety of our customers and the quality of our products very seriously, which is why we have removed this product from sale in all our stores and are conducting a recall." The retailer said it could present a risk if ingested and warned parents not to let their children eat from the plate.

The kids plate has been on sale since January 13 this year and the issue was highlighted by a French regulator. Formaldehyde can cause nausea, headaches, dizziness and hormone issues. The NHS website states that lead can cause abdominal pain and constipation, while children can experience developmental delays and learning difficulties.

Any customers who have purchased the product should return it to a store - with or without a receipt - for a full refund. If you can't make it to a store in person, you fill in an online customer service's form on the Primark website.
