Primark shoppers 'strip off on floor' to try clothes as Covid rules shut changing rooms

Primark shoppers have been stripping off on the shop floor to try on clothes as changing rooms are closed due to coronavirus restrictions, it's claimed.

The retail chain began trading again last week after a relaxation of Covid measures saw non-essential businesses reopen their doors after being shut for months.

Long queues have been seen outside shops and, despite fitting rooms being closed at the moment, Primark staff claim some customers have been removing their clothes to try products on in store.

Primark has urged customers to avoid trying clothes on while shopping and stressed they should use the 28 day return policy instead, Bristol Live reports.

However, staff at some of the chain’s major stores have claimed some shoppers are ignoring the advice, opting to strip off before spending money.

One employee told The Telegraph : "They take their shirts off and try things on near the mirrors.

"Even when you try to tell them, they don’t listen, even though there are signs on the mirror saying not to do that."

They claimed that not all staff members try to enforce the ban and they let people do it anyway "to avoid conflict".

The employee added: "A lot of people do it anyway, they throw their T-shirts off, although some customers are more polite."

Some shops, including John Lewis, H&M and River Island, reopened their fitting rooms on April 12 - but others, such as Primark, warned it could take several months to make them Covid-secure.

A Primark spokesman said: “Safety remains our number one priority and the vast majority of customers continue to support our extensive in-store safety measures.

"Our fitting rooms remain closed at this time but we are keeping this under review.”
