Shoppers have been flocking to Glasgow city centre this morning as clothes shops and other non-essential retailers reopened to the public again.
Large crowds of Glaswegians keen to pick up a bargain have been spotted outside Primark stores on Argyle Street and Sauchiehall Street - with many waiting since as early as 5:30am in the wind and rain to ensure they were among the first to get in.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon advised people hitting the shops to do so responsibly and respect staff who may be asking shoppers to shop differently from normal.
She tweeted: "If you plan on visiting shops today, please do so responsibly. Maintain physical distancing, follow hygiene advice, wear a face covering and respect staff who may be asking you to shop differently.
"We’ve made so much progress against the virus - let’s not squander it."
As we reported last week, retailers in the city centre had been hard at work preparing to reopen with increased hygiene and social distancing measures in place to protect staff and customers - with Primark putting hand sanitiser stations at the entrance to greet shoppers as well as large blue coloured floor markings and signs on the clothes racks to remind people of the need to maintain a two-metre distance from others.
Shoppers will need to wait a while longer for shopping centres to reopen under phase two of the routemap out of lockdown.
The likes of Silverburn, Buchanan Galleries and the Forge Shopping Centre not reopening fully to the public until July 13.
