Primark's 'gender neutral' changing rooms - Nottingham shoppers react

High street giant Primark announced it has introduced 'gender neutral' changing rooms at two of its UK branches - and shoppers have been split over the decision to say the least.

Although currently only affecting stores in Kent's Bluewater shopping centre, and Hastings, we decided to ask Nottingham bargain-hunters  if they'd mind trying on the latest in cheap and cheerful fashion inside a unisex fitting room.

In a Nottinghamshire Live poll, out of 151 responses, 55 percent said that changing rooms should remain separated by gender while 45 percent unisex fitting rooms wouldn't bother them at all.

Comments were equally split.

Responding to our poll The Equaliz3r said: "I'd imagine the individual cubicles are still private so it's not an issue."

While LocalNewsReader said: "Good luck to all the men out there who may want to use the changing rooms"

Kaden Stevenson didn't see an issue, saying: "Don’t know why’d you’d be bothered. Same as going to the toilet- we all have ‘unisex’ bathrooms in our own houses."

And Judie Tingle didn't see a point in changing rooms at all: "Can’t you just take it home to try and return if not happy? Why all this hoo-ha?".

Sam Jackson was against the idea, saying: "No! Certainly wouldn’t be happy for my teenage daughter to go in there either."

While Louise Haynes said: "I have no issues along as you have proper doors but I’m sure a lot of folks, male and female would feel uncomfortable."

As it stands there is no suggestion that the initiative will be rolled out nationwide.

Primark, owned by Associated British Foods, told Mirror Online it had introduced “non-gendered fitting rooms to improve the customer experience” at the two stores but those at its other 195 UK shops continue to be labelled 'male' and 'female'.
