Primark responds to lockdown easing moves allowing stores to re-open from June 15

High street retailer Primark has responded to moves allowing all non-essential stores to open from the middle of June.

The fashion chain has been closed since March 23, following the Government lockdown to prevent further spread of coronavirus.

However, during Monday's briefing from Prime Minister Boris Johnson, details were confirmed on the next stages of lockdown and the steps that will be implemented to ease restrictions, reports the Liverpool Echo.

These include outdoor markets and car showrooms able to open from June 1 and all other shops from June 15.

But before before being allowed to reopen, businesses will need to have completed a risk assessment, in consultation with trade union representatives and workers.

They will need to be confident they are managing the risks going forward and have taken the necessary steps to become ‘Covid-19 secure’, in line with Health and Safety legislation.

Since the Government announcement, Primark fans began tweeting their excitement at being able to visit the stores again.

However in reply, Primark did not indicate if it would reopen again on June 15.

Replying to one shopper who had shared a tweet which said: "@Primark here I come lol" Primark posted: "Hi Jo! With the health and safety of our staff and customers in front of mind, our stores are closed until further notice."

Last month the retailer revealed it had as much as £1.5billion worth of unsold stock in its warehouses, with no way to shift it.

And experts predicted a huge sale when stores open their doors again.

Primark has been contacted for further details surrounding reopening plans.
