Primark plans to extend opening to 24 hours a day over winter

We may not be able to stay in pubs until the early hours at the moment but bosses at Primark have said they could extend opening times to 24 hours a day at some stores over the festive period.

The move would be designed to let more people shop in the run up to Christmas and make social distancing easier throughout the day.

A spokeswoman for Primark told our sister site Glasgow Live:   "ABF are calling for extended trading hours for Primark stores once they re-open in December."

Chief executive George Weston said: "If we are able to trade in some stores up to 24 hours a day, then we can keep people more separate from each other more easily.

"We can keep the stores safer if everyone knows there are plenty trading hours and they do not have to rush on a Sunday into a six-hour period."

The news has been met with joy from avid bargain hunters excited by the thought of a midnight trip to the store.

One person wrote on the  Primark Hauls Facebook  group: "I'm gonna miss sleeping."

Another added: "Midnight shopping trip!"

A third commented: "This isn't good for sleep walkers though - imagine sleep walking to Primark at 1am and emptying your bank account!"

Primark stores in Edinburgh are in Fort Kinnaird and on Princes Street.

The budget clothing chain is expected to be in high demand over the festive period.
