Primark, new homes and better parking - What Clifton wants for 2020

Clifton residents have been having their say on what they need in the area as the new year gets underway.

A range of answers have been given, from a new Primark store, to new homes and better parking conditions.

Two retail units are still available to let on the housing estate's newest retail park Clifton Triangle where Lidl, B&M and Sue Ryder stores are.

"I think the area is crying out for a big store like Primark," said mum of two Kathy Williams.

The 30-year-old added: "There are a lot of people that live here. We have a range of supermarkets in Morrisons, Iceland, Lidl, and a Co-op - so a bigger clothes store would make sense.

"It would stop people having to go into the city all the time."

Her friend Jess Rowston, 31, agreed, saying she would want to see a clothes store occupy the Clifton Triangle.

"It's a shame that two spaces haven't been filled. I'd be interested to know the rent for them.

"I think we could do with a nice clothes store, or a shoe store."

John Parks, 59, said he wanted to see more done to address parking issues in the area.

Nottingham City Council has said it is looking at bringing in a parking permit system in the future to help combat ongoing parking issues.

Mr Parks said: "I've seen buses affected by how people park in Clifton. It's a busy place to live. There needs to be some sort of enforcement. Commuters and students park where they like and it has a knock-on effect."

Martin Howson, 49, of Clifton, who works in a pharmacy, said: "I think the area needs more new houses.

"Some properties are looking tired from back in the day when they were first built.

"New investment in the area is needed. It would free up houses for first time buyers as well."

A maximum of 278 houses could be built in Hawkesley Gardens, Clifton, according to Nottingham City Council's Local Plan.

But the council says the development should be sensitive to the neighbouring historic environment and heritage assets because of its proximity to a conservation area, a registered historic park and garden and the Grade I listed Clifton Hall.
