Primark is not set to trial online shopping - despite reports - but that could change one day

As any Primark shopper will know, when the cut-price retailer launches a popular product it can be a bit of a mad rush to get hold of it.

Disney themed accessories and purse-friendly takes on designer goods can fly off the shelves and even pop-up on eBay for inflated prices within minutes when they are in demand.

And - unlike many of their rivals - shoppers can't beat the rush by buying online at Primark.

Which meant customers got a little bit excited when rumours spread yesterday that Primark was set to launch an online shop, with a click and collect service.

We asked Primark if the rumours were true.

It turns out, Primark is not about to imminently launch an online store - although it is something the retailer may consider.

A Primark spokesperson told ChronicleLive: "Online is important for Primark. We have a strong digital and a rapidly growing social media presence, with currently 14 million followers. Our customers enjoy looking online at the latest offers, and coming into stores to buy. The combination of instore design, shopping experience and amazing prices is what makes Primark so attractive.

From time to time we will look at click and collect as one possible option to extend our customer service. However, there are no plans in the near future to trial click and collect."
