Primark ends debate on how to pronounce its name but some Scots won’t be happy

We all know Primark. Majority of us have shopped in there for last minute night out outfits and wardrobe staples.

But putting political and ethical debates aside, one main argument between Primark shoppers sparks from one thing.

Since opening its doors in 1969, shoppers have been debating on how to pronounce the clothing giant's name.

Pr-eye-mark or Pr-ee-mark? Some customers might have gone years saying 'Pr-eye-mark' without even giving it a second thought, until overhearing a pal say the latter, and suddenly they're bickering along Princes Street (And that's Princes. Not Princess).

But now it appears to have been settled after a post went viral on Family Lowdown Tips & Ideas Facebook group, after they were discussing how to pronounce the word, 'almond', The Mirror reports.

Someone interjected turning the conversation towards the high street's iconic budget fashion store.

They asked: "How do you pronounce Primark? (The clothes store). I thought everyone said it the same until yesterday when I heard someone call it Pr-E-Mark, I say Pr-I-Mark. Which is right?"

And the great debate started once more with people flocking to comments arguing it's 'Pr-eye-mark', with another admitting: "Pree-mark because we enjoy messing perfectly pronounceable words up in Northern Ireland."

Location seems to be a defining factor in the argument with someone from South Wales agreeing that it was also known as 'Preemark' to them.

Some confused things even further by calling it Penneys (Europe's title for the store), and the only version that everyone was able to come to a unanimous agreement on was Primani- the nickname name given to Primark clothes that look more expensive.

Over on TikTok, ex-Primark employee @Pontasaurus tried to have the final say by stating that it should be pronounced Pr-eye-mark, not Pree-mark - and anyone who disagrees is simply wrong.

Well, that's put that to bed.

But will you continue to say Pr-eye-mark or Pr-ee-mark?
