Primark confirms eight big store changes as it announces reopening plans

Primark has announced it's planning to reopen all of its stores in June.

Owner Associated British Foods (ABF) has said it is working to reopen all its 153 stores in England on June 15, and said it is awaiting further guidance regarding stores in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales but anticipates openings in "late June".

To keep customers safe, Primark has confirmed it will be making massive changes to the way its stores operate, reports Birmingham Live.

The chain will place limits on the number of customers allowed in store at any one time so employees and shoppers can stay two metres apart.

Primark will implement clear signs and floor decals, it says, as well as additional security staff.

Every second till will be closed to allow more space between customers and employees, Primark confirmed to the publication.

In a statement, the Primark owner said: "As European governments have begun to ease restrictions on clothing retailing we have been able to reopen stores.

"Safety has been our highest priority in our detailed preparations to welcome our customers and employees back to stores. We are following government safety advice in all markets.

"Importantly, we will apply the valuable experience gained from more than 100 stores which are already open as we open the remainder of our estate, including stores across the UK.

"Social distancing protocols, hand sanitiser stations, perspex screens at tills and additional cleaning of high frequency touch points in the store are among the measures we are implementing."

Primark's changes include:

  • Limits on the number of customers allowed in
  • Additional security staff
  • Clear signs
  • Till closures
  • PPE
  • Hand sanitiser, face masks and gloves
  • Perspex screens
  • Increased in-store cleaning
