Pride of Britain winner who saved mum from horror mountain fall says best prize is her life

Pride of Britain winner Sebastian Williams won his award for his incredible bravery as he saved his mum's life when she fell down a mountain.

But hero Sebastian, who was given his award by David Beckham, said the biggest prize of all was to have his mother there with him still.

When Sebastian was ten, he went mountain hiking in Scotland with his family, when his mum Suzanna suffered a horrific 100 metre fall.

"It was horrendous," said dad Derek. "The kids could hear mummy falling down the mountain for what seemed like 30 seconds."

Sebastian climbed down on his own to get to his mum, who had the only working phone.

"It was pretty scary, her head was pretty banged up and bloody," said Sebastian.

Suzanne dialled 999 and gave Sebastian the phone, and he stayed with her for three hours and installed GPS software to mountain rescue could find them.

Suzanne had suffered head and spinal injuries and her leg was so badly broken the bone was protruding.

Sports fan Sebastian was overwhelmed when he and his family were surprised by David with the Child of Courage award.

"I've heard all about your story, and it is incredible and so inspiring," said David.

"I obviously can't give you a hug, he added, as the awards have all been socially distanced.

"But there's four people that really want to give you a big hug on that sofa, so congratulations and well done," he said as Sebastian's parents and three siblings gave him a cuddle.

Sebastien said: “I was like, ‘Wow. That’s David Beckham, he’s here!'

"It was really cool meeting a football legend because not many people get to do that.

And it’s great to be rewarded - but I’m just really happy that I have my mum.”
