Pride of Britain winner Harmonie-Rose Allen switches on Bristol Christmas lights

An inspirational girl from Bath was given the honour of turning on a Christmas lights display in Bristol after winning a prestigious award.

Harmonie-Rose Allen won the Child of Courage award at Pride of Britain Awards in November due to her feats as a meningitis survivor.

This included participating in the Bath Half Marathon and taking on various physical challenges during the first national lockdown.

As a reward, she was invited to turn on the Christmas lights in Clifton Village as part of The Big Clifton Christmas Tree Switch On, organised by BID Clifton Village.

A large crowd watched on as the eight-year-old pressed the button to illuminate the 50ft tree, which is covered in 5,000 LED lights, crackers and presents.

Event organiser Tony Miles said: "Harmonie was a larger star than the star we had on top of Clifton Village Christmas Tree."

He added that the BID Clifton Village was "over the moon" that Harmonie-Rose had agreed to turn on Clifton Village's tree in Mall Gardens - the largest of any village in the UK.

BID Clifton Village also made a £750 donation to MeningitisNow, a UK-based charity whose junior ambassador is Harmonie-Rose.

Harmonie was diagnosed with meningitis at only 10 months old and had to have both her legs and arms amputated.

In an interview with ITV, when asked about how the Christmas switch-on compared to the Pride of Britain Awards and her glorious win, Harmonie said: "It doesn't really compare because I love Christmas!"

After she had illuminated the tree, The Ivy Clifton Brasserie presented Harmonie-Rose and her family with a children’s tea party filled with chocolate cake, cupcakes and smoothies.

This was definitely an evening to remember for heroic Harmonie-Rose.
